Stella joins us at an important and exciting moment - after almost four decades of iconic, inspiring programming, LIFT is embarking on the next significant chapter of the organisation’s life following the appointment of Kris Nelson as our Artistic Director & CEO in 2018.
Stella will bring her extensive expertise to lead the team towards and beyond our next festival in June 2020, as we develop new and existing local, national and international partnerships and create the context for daring and resonant artistic projects to come to life.
Last month our Artistic Director Kris travelled to Nairobi and Kampala, supported by British Council’s Festivals in Motion grant. Over nine incredible days, he met artists, curators, producers and thinkers.
This blog is a jumble of encounters and snippets of conversations that hopefully offer a glimpse to anyone curious about what the Kenyan and Ugandan artistic scenes are up to.
With just over a year to go until our next festival, we’re beyond excited to reveal an absolute trailblazer of a show, in a co-production with the Young Vic. The Second Woman by Australia’s Nat Randall and Anna Breckon is an internationally-acclaimed 24-hour feat of endurance performance and live cinema and we can’t wait to bring it to London.
Created by an all-female-identifying and non-binary team who capture and mix the action live from multiple cameras, The Second Woman is a brilliant, binge-worthy spectacle, inspired by the 1977 John Cassavetes film Opening Night.
LIFT's Artistic Director Kris Nelson reflects on his recent trip to Brazil's MIT Festival in São Paulo - of being submerged in its beautiful urban architecture, the warmth and generosity of the people he met and the defiance and unity of the artists he saw and heard from.
