Your Tottenham - If These Streets Could Talk
We’re making a brand-new game for Tottenham that celebrates the area’s rich cultural and social history and we want to include your stories! This event is an opportunity to find out more about the project and tell us your own Tottenham-based tales, as we take a walk from Downhills Park Cafe to Bernie Grant Arts Centre.
About the game
The game is being led, conceived and created by local digital artist Imwen Eke alongside the international artists Darren O’Donnell and Alice Fleming, with the Tottenham UpLIFTers, a group of local teenagers who have been working on various artistic projects with LIFT since 2015. Premiering in August, it will be an immersive digital experience that will take audiences to different sites across the local area where some of Tottenham’s hidden stories will be revealed through augmented reality combined with live performances.
As the game is currently being developed, the UpLIFTers are gathering stories and ideas that will then be incorporated into the game and accompanying online map, so we need the help of the local community to uncover Tottenham’s undiscovered stories – from the everyday events that make the area what it is or the ‘I can’t believe that happened here!’ moments.
What’s happening on Saturday 13 April?
We’re inviting audience members to join us on a walking tour through some of the UpLIFTers’ favourite areas of Tottenham as they share the stories they’ve gathered so far and collect new ones along the way. We’ll meet at Downhills Park Cafe at 11am for a chat and a coffee before heading off on the tour at 11.30am. The event will finish at 2pm at Bernie Grant Arts Centre – please consider this when planning your transport and don’t leave your belongings at Downhills Park Cafe! Due to the walking tour element, audience members with any mobility requirements are encouraged to get in touch on email or by calling 02079686800, so we can discuss the best way for you to be involved in the event.
This is a free event but places are limited, please book in advance.
Send us your story!
We want to gather as many stories before the 13 April event and would love to hear from you – there are a number of ways to contribute. You can either complete our short online form, send an email or voice note to our Senior Producer, Carolyn Forsyth on firstname.lastname@example.org or call the LIFT office on 020 7968 6800.
If you’d prefer your story to remain anonymous that’s fine, just let us know when you contact us. Unfortunately, due to time and space limitations, we won’t be able to feature everyone’s story in the game but they will all be part of our research process. We may also use the stories in the communications and publicity for the game.
