    Tottenham Artist Hangout

    Presented by LIFT Tottenham

    27 June, 6:30pm - 9pm FREE

    STYX

Connect with local artists, musicians, theatre-makers, dancers and more for an evening of sharing, exchange, provocation and connection.

Taking place at STYX, our next Tottenham Artist Hangout will focus on how we can make the arts for everyone in Tottenham. The evening will be led by The S+K Project which was founded by Steven Kavuma and Malakai Sargeant (who is also the Chair of our Tottenham Board and who you might have met at our April Hangout at Green Rooms).

Join us at 6.30pm as we kick off with an evening of networking, sharing and opportunities to develop the conversations from previous Tottenham Artist Hangouts (but don’t worry if you’ve never been before, everyone is welcome).

From 9pm we will move the conversations to the more informal setting of STYX’s outdoor bar. There will be an opportunity to buy dinner too from a special pop-up food vendor.

This event is free but please book in advance as space is limited.

What do we mean by Tottenham Artist Hangout?

By Tottenham we mean that you are based in the Tottenham area, and by based we mean that you live here, work here, or have a strong connection to the area in your life or artistic practice.

By Artist we mean people with creativity to share. You might be working across dance, music, visual arts, theatre, live art, design or other creative fields, really we are interested in people practicing any art form and at any stage in their career.

By Hangout we mean come, meet, share, debate, listen, respond, contemplate, produce, consume, and enjoy. It’s about making connections, with new friends, new collaborators and with us at LIFT.

    About STYX

STYX is a space for stories for Tottenham.
Founded by Felix and Josh, two theatre-makers (aka RIFT), this Tottenham Hale Music and Theatre Venue delivers incredible immersive experiences and unique nights. STYX curates performance, music, workshops and theatre for N17. Made possible through partnership with Mill Co Project and Haringey Council.

    About The S+K Project

We formed The Sargeant and Kavuma Project as we wanted to change perceptions of young people in performing arts; we are striving to revolutionise the performing arts industry, no matter how long it takes. As young, black artists we are frustrated that people like us face being typecast into roles that don’t necessarily reflect our culture or community. We plan to challenge this by making the arts as inclusive as possible, creating a more well-rounded opinion of society and the people within it.

One step at a time, we aim to reduce the injustices in the arts and create a level playing field for anyone who wants to be involved in the arts and media. We want to create imaginative, innovative and informative new plays that benefit everyone involved. Since September 2014 we have written, directed and produced five original plays, delivered creative workshops and produced successful events across London and, in the future, we would aim to bring this across the country, spreading the message of how the arts really can be for everyone. We wish to create and prolong conversations from all aspects of our work, provoking minds and stimulating change.

“For me Tottenham is best described as home, misunderstood and a rough gem.”

“I left feeling very inspired and optimistic for the future of the arts and the community in Tottenham, so many engaged and active people are involved.”
