    Change for a Tenner! Series

    (UK)

For 33 years we’ve championed theatre that reimagines the world. In 2014 we developed a programme of six events that showcased imaginative, brave and surprising attempts to make change happen.

Sexy ideas are ten a penny. Change comes at a higher price. If making the world a better place was just about people having good ideas we’d be in paradise by now. In the real world, what you want crashes into other people. Sometimes there’s a struggle. Other people have to be involved. Who’s coming with you? Something’s got to give.
Change for a Tenner was a celebration of the messy, awkward and beautiful art of social change in 2014. It was a search for tactics, approaches and devices to bring people together to find small change, big change and change we want.

    5 events, then a Gameshow

Across five events we went to the extremes – campaigners who have dedicated their lives to fight for incredible, unlikely things; truth-tellers who have risked their sanity, flesh and freedom to say things that matter – dreamers who have raised a flag and declared independence from the world around them. And we were at the fringes too – a working mens club in Peckham, a hidden Bloomsbury Church, a warehouse theatre, a Tin Tabernacle and Wilton’s spellbinding Music Hall. People you wouldn’t normally see, in places you wouldn’t normally go.

The series climaxed at Shoreditch Town Hall on the evening of 26th of June with Change for a Tenner Gameshow. With the help of Mikey Weinkove and The People Speak , the audience decided who got to take away a stack of cash and goodwill to try and make something happen.
