Survival Kit

Equip yourself for a conversation with a difference. Survival Kit deploys a team of expert speakers on the themes of safety and surveillance. A dynamic conversation unfolds exploring the idea of safety – from policing to meteorology; household security to human rights. What are we prepared to give up in order to feel safe? What personal strategies do we use to feel secure?

Speakers will include Dr John E McGrath on surveillance; Dr Avaes Mohammad on the biochemistry of explosions; Phillipa Roles, Associate of Reedsmith, on human rights and the law; Meteriologist Storm Dunlop on bad weather; Sarah Walker of the English Collective of Prostitutes on the safety of sex workers; Prasad Vanarase (India), Director of Dangalnama for Lift Festival 2008; and BBC journalist Rani Singh on the role of  the Media and Current Affairs in keeping us safe.

Joining forces with audience members, the speakers will dissect the Survival Kit of today and evaluate the possibilities of how best to equip ourselves for the future. Facilitated by Newham-based community mediation service, Conflict and Change.
