Signs Of The World
There are hundreds of different sign languages and, as w ith all languages, what you're trying to express can sometimes get lost in translation. For Signs Of The World, theatre director Jenny Sealey, photographer David Hevey, film-maker Mark Haig and members of London's deaf community take a light-hearted look at how sign language is used across the world.
Seeing how the signs for common words like 'man' and 'woman' differ according to various cultures, Signs Of The World is a profound examination of meanings and communication. However, this short film is also an important learning experience for both deaf and hearing viewers - particularly if you want to avoid offence when making apparently innocuous gestures in some parts of the globe!
