GATZ

The most remarkable achievement in theatre not only of this year but also of this decade.

Ben Brantley, The New York Times

LIFT is proud to present GATZ, an exceptional staging of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s masterpiece The Great Gatsby.

One morning in the shabby office of a mysterious small business, an employee finds a copy of The Great Gatsby in the clutter on his desk. He starts to read it out loud and doesn't stop. At first his coworkers hardly notice. But after a series of strange coincidences, it's no longer clear whether he's reading the book or the book is transforming him.

Performed by an award-winning ensemble of 13 actors, GATZ is not an adaptation of Fitzgerald's famous novel but a staging of the entire work. Running at  8 hours, with three intervals including an extended dinner break, GATZ is a truly unique theatrical experience where Fitzgerald's great American novel is startlingly brought to life.

Created and performed by New York's Elevator Repair Service and directed by John Collins, this extraordinary production will mark the first time in it’s thirty-year history that LIFT has programmed in the West-End. GATZ is presented at the Noël Coward Theatre as part of LIFT 2012 and the London 2012 Festival and with the support of the National Theatre.

Described as a strangely seductive, often revelatory, and altogether ingenious production by the Chicago Sun Times, this is London’s first chance to experience this extraordinary event.

With only 23 performances, GATZ is a truly unique theatrical production which promises to be this season's hottest ticket -
